Downtown Dayton is set to make headlines as it hosts the 2025 NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session—a landmark event marking the first NATO session held in the U.S. since 2003. Coinciding with the 30th anniversary of the historic Dayton Peace Accords, this international gathering is poised to shine a global spotlight on our community’s rich history, culture, and innovative spirit.
A Historic Moment for Dayton and International Diplomacy
For decades, Dayton has stood as a symbol of peace and international cooperation, a legacy solidified by the Dayton Peace Accords. Now, as the city welcomes approximately 300 parliamentarians from 32 NATO nations (with many accompanied by family and staff), downtown Dayton will transform into a vibrant hub of global dialogue and diplomacy. The presence of nearly 1,000 visitors is expected to infuse our city with new energy, celebrating both our past and our future on the world stage.
“Bringing NATO to Dayton will allow us as a community to honor the legacy of the Dayton Peace Accords, while keeping an eye to the future of the Miami Valley,” said Gabriel van Aalst, President and CEO of Dayton Live.

Only credentialed participants and media members will have access to these venues, ensuring a secure and focused environment for international discussions.
What’s Unique About This Event?
NATO Village: Downtown Dayton will be designated as a secured “NATO Village,” a restricted zone that spans key streets including Monument Avenue, Wilkinson Street, Fourth Street, and St. Clair Street. This area will see limited pedestrian access and no vehicle entry during the conference dates, as law enforcement and city officials work hand-in-hand with federal and international agencies to guarantee safety.

Community Impact: Local businesses, residents, and visitors within the NATO Village perimeter will receive direct communications from the Dayton Police Department regarding access requirements and security protocols. Despite these temporary changes, the community is embracing the opportunity to showcase the best of Dayton.
Leadership and Local Partnerships
At the forefront of this initiative is Congressman Mike Turner (OH-10), head of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Congressman Turner’s longstanding commitment to international security and diplomacy has been instrumental in bringing this prestigious event to Dayton. His partnership with local leaders—such as Gabriel van Aalst of Dayton Live and Erhardt Preitauer of CareSource—highlights a united community effort to host an event of global significance.
Congressman Turner’s distinguished record includes serving as Head of the U.S. Delegation since 2011 and a prior tenure as President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (2014-2016). His expertise and leadership ensure that the event will be as impactful as it is secure.
Community Involvement: Get Ready for “First Bloom”
Downtown Dayton isn’t just a host; it’s a vibrant community coming together to prepare for this momentous occasion. In anticipation of the NATO session, local organizers are calling on residents and business owners to participate in the “First Bloom” Community Cleanup & Beautification effort on April 26. This volunteer event will involve:
- Flower planting
